frequently asked questions
Q: How far in advance should I book my session with MHP?
A: Please refer back to the "investment" page.
Q: Do you do Senior Portraits?
A: Absolutely! Contact MHP for further details.

Q: Do you do weddings?
A: I do! However, I limit wedding bookings to less than 5 per year so book as soon as possible!
Q: How many people are included in my family portrait session?
A: All immediate family members are welcome in your photo shoot. We would LOVE to include the grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, and neighbors too, but for an additional charge of $75 per family. They will receive the same benefits you will from your session package. If you have further inquiries about this, please contact MHP directly.
Q: What if I arrive late?
A: PLEASE plan to arrive a few minutes early for your session. This will give you the chance to pull everyone together, do a final wardrobe check, wipe faces, and get everyone psyched up for their shoot. If you are stuck in traffic, have been stopped by a train, or are just simply running a few minutes behind, please call or text MHP as soon as possible. Any sessions being delayed more than 15 minutes will have to be rescheduled for a different time. Please note that during high volume seasons, your session time could be directly effected by your promptness due to scheduling arrangements by MHP.
Q: What if I need to cancel my session?
A: If you need to cancel due to an illness, MHP will reschedule your session based on current availability. Please note, all retainers are non-refundable. MHP will do everything possible to reschedule your session in a timely manner, but during high volume seasons, this might not always be possible. If you have already rescheduled one session and need to reschedule your make-up session, you will forfeit your retainer and will be required to pay another one before booking again.
Q: What if it rains?
A: I do everything I possibly can NOT to reschedule sessions based on the weather. I DO NOT cancel sessions based on a forecast. However, I cannot shoot during an active rain. If it rained the night before, you can assume we are still on for your session that day. If it is raining that morning, but will be clearing up that afternoon, we are still on for your late afternoon or evening session. If it is supposed to be a torrential downpour during your session time, we will attempt to rearrange timing for that day. Should you have any further questions based on the weather activity for your session, please contact MHP directly.
Q: What should I wear for my session?
A: This is a touchy subject. My first, and most important, piece of advice is to dress comfortably. If you are uncomfortable in what you are wearing, this WILL come across in your portraits. Timeless outfits are an excellent choice, however I don't recommend everyone wearing the same thing (ie. black shirts and jeans, white shirts and khakis, etc.) Stray away from flourescent colors, solid white shirts (try adding a scarf), solid black shirts (throw on a funky necklace), and hot pinks. Be yourselves! Wear what expresses who you are. If you like plaid and stripes, rock it out! If your kid won't give up the rain boots even though it's July in Kentucky and it hasn't rained in 45 days, that's okay! It's them. It's who they are. I am a storyteller, and I am here to document your story for the world through my images. And if all else fails, turn to Pinterest! No fretting though! We will discuss all of this and more during your phone consult, and we will be positive you and your family are dressed PERFECTLY!
Q: What should I expect during my session?
A: You should expect to have FUN! I am extremely relaxed during my sessions and highly recommend you relax too!! I suggest different "poses" however I will never force them. I will NOT upset a child over forcing a pose. It's just not worth it. If your child prefers to sit on the ground vs. the blanket, then that's where your child should sit. If your child prefers to do a silly face before a regular smile, then we capture that silly face. You should expect to laugh. A LOT! You should expect to hang out and enjoy your family. You should expect to snuggle and cuddle and watch your kids be themselves. These are lifestyle sessions, so come prepared full of love and life, and I will as well :)
Q: When will I get to see my photos?
A: You will get to see your hand-edited images at your reveal and ordering session! We will set up an appointment time for this during your portrait session. This appointment will generally take place 10-14 days after your session date. Please make sure all interested parties are available for this appointment. All payments are due in full for any products ordered at this time.
Q: What should I expect during my reveal and ordering session?
A: During this time, you will watch a slideshow of all of your hand-edited images from your session. We will then discuss your specific needs for the photographs. Would you like to have a large portrait above your mantle? Do you like the look of smaller images in a cluster making up a custom designed portrait wall? Are you needing to send birth announcements or Save-The-Date cards? Do you need gift prints for grandparents? Would you benefit from purchasing an album instead of smaller prints? All of these topics will be discussed so that we can create a package of products that fits your style and your needs. All parties interested in the purchase of products should be available at this time. If someone cannot attend this session who should be involved in the decision making process and purchasing of products, we will reschedule the session. Please be prepared with full payment of order at this time.
Q: How long will it take to get my order?
A: This all depends on the product you have purchased. A regular print order should take roughly 14 days from your ordering appointment. Digital image orders, as well as album designs and specialty orders could take 15-30 days from your ordering appointment.
Q: When I purchase the digital files, do I also receive a copyright release?
A: No. All of the images I capture are copyrighted to Megan Hile Photography. I NEVER release my copyright for any reason. When you purchase the digital files, you will receive a print release. This enables you to print your images wherever you wish. It is unlawful to edit, crop, change, or alter these images in any way at all.
Q: Where should I have my images printed after purchasing the digital files?
A: For the very best quality, I always recommend having your images printed through my professional printer. However, I do recognize this isn't always possible. If you have purchased your digital files, the commercial printer I recommend most often would be Mpix.com. However, MHP is in no way responsible for images printed with any other company.
